5 tips to deal with CNY Stress

Chinese New Year is in full swing, with all the festivities and food it is a great opportunity to spend time with your family and catch up with your relatives. However, for some it may be a stressful time as well. From the dealing with large crowds, back to back diet bursting meals or even nosy relatives questioning your love life. That’s why we’ve compiled some tips to help you combat CNY stress!

Tip 1 - Soak in the sun

Make use of the public holiday to go for a hike and get some sunlight in. Sunlight helps to stimulate the production of serotonin (the feel-good hormone), contributing to your wellbeing and happiness.

Tip 2 - Do less, enjoy more

Do you often find yourself saying yes to everything and taking on more than you can handle? Learn to say “no” politely and take some time off for yourself.

Tip 3 - Laughter, the best medicine

Laughing is a great way to relieve stress. Watch a comedy or play a funny board game with your friends and laugh your way to stress-free holiday.

Tip 4 - Forget perfection

Getting stressed out over having to host guests at your place? While it is a good habit to keep things neat and tidy, it's not the end of the world if the house is a little cluttered or if the food comes a little late. Focus on being present, enjoy the moment and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Tip 5 - Celebrate outside

If your family members often pick on one another during meal gatherings at home, consider taking it outside and have it at a restaurant. Being in public often discourages loud voices and bad behaviour. Even better, you don’t have to clean up after!
